I visited Miyama in Kyoto, a beautiful village known for its traditional thatched-roof houses, and captured its scenery in this watercolor sketch.
My focus for this piece was simplicity. Instead of over-painting, I intentionally minimized my brushstrokes, leaving room for the viewer's imagination to fill in the rest. I wanted to convey the fresh, humid air of the Japanese countryside, the vibrant greenery of the surrounding forest, and the nostalgic presence of the old houses.
