Original artwork description
My work is often inspired by music—the Quartet series, the Sonetto ("a little song")series, Allegro, the Rhythms series, et al--so while reading Psalm 138, I realized that a psalm is a sacred song, which prompted me to create a painting that is a visual song of praise, incorporating words and phrases from the psalm, as well as visual rhythms and patterns. The work is done in watercolor on 140 lb. Arches paper, from which a collage was created and then mounted on canvas. Then, I painted over the collage in oils, with touches of alcohol inks. The palette is blue and teal, with gold leaf accents.
