Original artwork description
Suprematism, the Russian avant garde art movement founded by Russian artist Kazimir Malevich, in 1913, could equally well have been called Simpltonism, relying, as it does, on the simple fundamentals of geometry – squares, circles, rectangles – in a limited range of colours. Malevich’s infamous painting Black Square which depicts...er...a black square on a white background, cranks Suprematism up (or should it be down?) to 11. Malevich admired how Cubism decontructed art and changed traditional reference points. Suprematism attracted a surprising number of Russian women to its ranks including Aleksanda Ekster, Liubov Popova, Olga Rozanova, Nadezhda Udaltsoya, Nina Genke Meller and Ksenia Boguslavskaya. Maybe its true that women reign supreme! The artist is prepared to offer 20% off if покой and любовь are sold together - ie, €1360 for both pictures.
