ABOUT THE ART WORK
I painted this nocturnal Positano on the breath of the warm sea and the city’s whisper as it lights up the slopes like a scatter of stars. I wanted to capture the moment when the silence of the water meets the lively glow of terraces and cafés, and the air becomes dense—almost tangible. I deliberately heightened the warm–cool contrast: amber lights along the shore against sapphire and turquoise shadows of the sea and mountains—so the viewer could feel the night’s breath and the soft neon shimmer on the wet surface.

The piece is executed in impasto—thick layers of oil, mostly with a palette knife. The texture builds the city’s relief: short, hewn strokes gather the cascade of houses, while broad, sweeping movements convey the sway of reflections. I kept the edges of the strokes alive so the light would catch on them and flicker, as in real Positano, where every step is a small light on the way to the sea.
