Original artwork description
“PORTAL” is a work that explores the concept of transition and transformation through the dialogue between light, colour and upcycled materials. Created using over 6,000 recycled tobacco sticks, it transforms waste material into a vibrant surface, where each piece contributes to the creation of a new vision.
The composition unfolds in a concentric gradient that emerges from a luminous white centre and gradually expands towards light blue, blue and purple. At the centre, a strip of light cuts through the work, evoking the image of a portal: a symbolic threshold between what has been and what may become, between consumed matter and its rebirth.
The title PORTAL evokes the idea of a passageway to a dimension of greater awareness, in which change arises from the ability to attribute new value to what is commonly regarded as waste. The work invites the viewer to look beyond appearances and to recognise, in the transformation of matter, a metaphor for the transformation of thought and our relationship with the environment.
