Pomegranates is a hyprerrealist oil painting on a gesso panel , measuring 8 x 10 inches (approx 20 x 25 cm).

The painting, of two pomegranates on a plate - one split into two revealing the fleshy interior and bright red seeds, is artist Christopher Witchall’s attempt to give the genre of Dutch 17th century Still Life painting a modern aesthetic.

Witchall combines 21st century technology of Hi-Resolution digital imaging, with centuries old painting techniques, including a grisaille under painting and building up depth of colour by layering very thin transparent oil paint, in a technique called glazing.

The resulting painting has a high degree of realism, within a stripped back, modern feel composition.

Pomegranates is signed on the back and supplied with a signed Certificate of Authenticity.
