My approach:
There are many different approaches to working with thr brush. I don't think there is any special, precisely defined way of moving the brush across the surface.

I strive to have texture on the canvas - to see the trace of the brush movement. And the movement of the brush should not be regular, but without a predetermined path - chaotic strokes, to get an abstract look.
