One of a series of small landscape watercolour and pencil paintings done near Pottsville PA in November 2023. This watercolour came from the same deep familiarity with the Pennsylvania countryside that runs through a lot of my work. The medium suits the softness of this landscape. I find watercolour difficult in exactly the right way, and the way the washes behaved here felt like the painting was doing some of the thinking for me. The result has an almost monochrome stillness I didn't entirely plan.
