- Pasta and Weathered Wood 1
Original artwork description
Wikipedia lists 197 different types of art 'movements' many of which sound either like names of bookshelves in an IKEA catalogue or morally dubious cults that you wouldn't want your daughter to join - Dadism, Pointillism, Vorticism, Luminism, Ashcan, Stuckism, Superflat, Skeuomorph. Abstract art covers a multitude of sins - Cubism, Modernism, Suprematism, Plasticism - and relies on images unrelated to the real world. But abstract artists still need to paint 'something' - the Suprematists and Bauhaus with their simple shapes and colours, the Cubists with their...er cubes. Weathered wood is a good place for an artist to plagiarise peculiar patterns, which, totally out of context, could be considered abstract. And there are almost as many different types of pasta as art movements, many with highly entertaining shapes and forms - Farfelle, Fusilli, Linguine, Bucati. We are truly witnessing the birth of a brand new art movement, Pastacism. Let's hope the genre doesn't get overcooked.
