This portrait portrays a woman from the Pacific Islands who has a regal manner. My portraits combine elements of realism and abstraction. The woman is presented in profile in a realistic manner. As I painted her, I thought of a monarch gazing out at her domain. The abstract background features warm, sunny yellows and shades of leafy green that evoke the tropical colors of Hawaii. The painting conveys a peaceful, meditative mood.
