Original artwork description
Inspired by the Lavender Pit (located in Bisbee, AZ), this painting portrays a multitude of ways that humans have physically influenced the landscape in the American Southwest. The Lavender Pit itself is a huge gauge in the Earth's surface, caused by mining for metals and minerals such as Copper and Turquoise. Here we have literally left a big (albeit beautiful) scar on our planet. Despite the fact that this abandoned mining project is now quiet, the experience of this place is loud with construction and destruction, stories of building and breaking, humanity seeking to dominate and penetrate the land while also failing because of the sheer vastness of the project. These opposing forces drove me to make two works on this subject - Into the Ground and Out of the Ground.
Materials used:
oil, acrylic, sand, enamel, wooden panel
Details:
- Mixed-media painting on Panel / Board / MDF
- One of a kind artwork
- Size: 121.92 x 121.92 x 4.45cm (unframed)
- Ready to hang
