Original artwork description
The inspiration for this painting ‘Once We Were Berries’ was a previous piece I did of red berries However, dissatisfied with the picture, I completely abstracted the image.
Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead use shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect.
However, the artist Alice Neel said there is no such thing as abstract art, as the eye cannot paint what it has not seen.
With abstract painting, there can be the initial inspiration, and then I play around with line, shapes and colour until something emerges which I am happy with.
This process can take quite a while, but it is fun and very exciting.
