Original artwork description
These days it’s not easy to find someone willing to spend time simply sitting in an artist’s studio and posing. Two or three spare hours are a luxury few people can afford. More often than not, imagination or old photographs have to do the job.
But this was one of those rare occasions when the model gathered her courage, forgot about time, and agreed to sit in my studio - if only for a short while. The result is right in front of you. Yes, this study was painted from life.
I stopped when time ran out. At first, I thought I would continue working without the model, but then I realized there was nothing I wanted to change or add. The painting remained exactly as it was when she left — a quiet trace of her presence.
I painted this study over a bright green ground (what we call an imprimatura), which is also quite unusual for me. Apparently, that day made exceptions feel perfectly natural.
