Helios drives his chariot across the heavens,
bringing the world the blessed warmth of summer.
July still carries the memory of Messidor,
the season of harvests and golden ears of wheat.
The pale, fresh complexion inherited from winter
is transformed as the days go by,
from topaz to gold,
until at last it reaches the mellow tones of amber and copper.
