I work from photographs and found images, inspired and influenced by film and cinematography. My subjects are mostly women (often fictional or notorious).
Recently I've been working on the theme of biopics and the act of becoming someone else. This subject in this painting is Ana De Armas as Marilyn Monroe in 'Blonde' – a fictionalised biopic. The title refers to how Ana De Armas describes how she felt about playing Marilyn Monroe.
The act of painting the subject, as she is portraying another, adds another layer of fiction; blurring the boundary between reality and representation.
The painting is sold framed in a classic black floater frame with hanging fixtures attached.
