NEED FOR LOVE is an ethnic sculpture carved from root wood weathered by time and the elements.
It symbolises the need for love, with this creature that is repulsive at first glance but whose gaze is full of tenderness and distress, with its open mouth and shy expression, half rodent, half hyena.
The creature is perched on a wooden rod fixed to a homemade base made of thick sanded wood, then painted and varnished, with a large old rusty iron nail hammered into the wood, giving it its charm.
This small sculpture belongs to the Ostreïdes series, which expresses the complexity of life in its search for the most appropriate form for survival, as well as the wisdom of the mind applied to the transformation of matter.
The work is carved and sculpted with a gouge in wood that has been cleaned and emptied of its impurities and weaknesses to give it its final shape, and completed with superfine wood cellulose where necessary, then stained with water-soluble oil paint. A light coat of marine varnish is applied at the end to fix the wood and protect the work.
Dimensions with base: H 30 x W 9 x D 10 cm.
Signed piece.
Materials: old root wood, superfine wood cellulose, water-soluble oil paint, protective marine varnish.
