Original artwork description:

Equestrian portrait

Inspired by Jacques-Louis David’s iconic portrait of Napoleon Crossing the Alps, this painting is my contemporary interpretation of a historical masterpiece.

In my version, I’ve used loose, gestural brushstrokes and expressive layers of color to abstract the image, focusing more on emotional resonance than historical realism.

This approach allowed me to explore contrasts—between control and chaos, legacy and reinterpretation. By deconstructing the classical imagery and allowing parts of the figure and horse to dissolve into abstraction, I aimed to capture not just the grandeur, but the intensity and uncertainty that such moments in history might have held. It’s a personal exploration of power, myth, and motion through a contemporary lens.
