Original artwork description
This painting is a staged memory of an ideal evening, warm, opulent and deeply personal.
In a grand interior washed in turquoise and gold, a family of three poses together for a photograph. A woman in a soft pink gown is seated on a plush red armchair, a man in a dark blazer stands protectively behind her, and a young woman in a taupe dress sits by her side, their beloved white dog curled at their feet. It is a moment of quiet togetherness, posed but full of affection, the kind of picture that becomes an heirloom.
The room around them speaks of a life well-loved and well-lived. To the left, a tall, arched bookcase with a gilded, antique frame is filled with rows of colorful books, curios and treasures, flanked by two small portrait frames and a stately red brocade armchair with its matching ottoman. To the right, a dazzling crystal chandelier hangs from the high ceiling, casting a soft, celebratory glow over the family, illuminating the leopard-print settee and the delicate marble-top tables set with flowers.
At the heart of the painting, a grand gilded doorway opens not to another room, but to an evening garden. A white fountain sparkles in the center of a manicured lawn, framed by silhouetted trees against a dramatic sunset sky in burnt orange and deep red. The golden ochre floor of the interior seems to melt into the twilight outside, blurring the line between home and paradise.
Part of my 'My Best Life' series, this work is about abundance as a feeling - not just luxury, but the luxury of having your people, your pets, your books and your beautiful things all in one frame.
