Inspired by a trip to Japan and the serene gardens of the Sanzen-in Temple, this modern oil painting transports you to the light and shade and softness of the charm of Japanese moss gardens.

Subtly blended oil colours are layered to describe the shade cast by the tree trunks and the leaf laden branches above. Moss, hedges and trees stretch into the distance.

Lizzie Butler is a contemporary British painter.
She has exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London and at several London galleries. She has also exhibited internationally, with oil paintings shown in Washington, USA and her etchings exhibited in Japan.
