Moonrise, Nubble Light
Francois de Melogue
2023 | Archival pigment print on metallic lustre fine art paper | 25x17
The sky above Cape Neddick holds its breath between day and night, deepening to a bruised, saturated blue that carries the last warmth of dusk along its edges. Against it, a full moon rises directly above the lighthouse station — large, luminous, its surface a warm amber-white that pulls against the cool salt air rising off the water below. The white walls of the keeper's house and tower catch the last of the ambient light, solid and unhurried, as the Atlantic moves in slow dark rhythms against the barnacled rock beneath the island.
There is a stillness at the center of this scene that the water cannot disturb. The moon does not care about tides or shipping lanes or the careful placement of a lens. It simply rises, as it has for longer than the lighthouse has stood, and for one precise moment the two lights — one ancient, one made by hand — occupy the same column of sky above the Maine coast. To be there is to feel the particular cold of ocean air in October, to hear the slap and drag of waves, and to understand, without needing to name it, that you have arrived at exactly the right moment.
Quality is about longevity. I use a high-resolution Canon R5 Mark II to capture every detail of the Maine landscape. Each piece is printed in-studio using professional-grade Canon Pro-1100 and Epson P9000 systems with archival pigment inks on natural cotton paper to create a print that will last for generations.
Print only, with a 1/4 inch wide white bordering for convenient matting and (or) framing
