‘Miyajima Island’ is a striking original hummingbird painting by British artist Sian Storey, and part of an ongoing series of paintings inspired by the beauty of Japan.

A long, rectangular canvas sized at 30x100cm and 5cm depth, Sian used acrylic and spray paint to create this vibrant and beautiful painting. The colours of deep orange and warm yellow are alive with energy and movement, whilst the cool and calm soothing blues create a sea like backdrop to wonderful effect.

Look closely and you’ll also see origami paper all the way from Japan pasted onto the painting.

The painting is signed by the artist Sian Storey on the front and reverse, and will be a stunning addition to your art collection.

Japan’s beauty is a constant source of inspiration for Sian. The title ‘Miyajima Island' refers to the the enchanting island of Miyajima, located in the beautiful Seto Inland Sea region of Japan. The orange tones are a nod to the iconic torri gate of the Itsukushima Shrine that seems to hover magically on the sea as you approach the island.

Sian is also inspired by the beauty and movement of hummingbirds, and this painting continues Sian's fascination with them.

‘Miyajima Island' was painted in Sian Storey’s studio in leafy Hampshire in 2019. Sian paints in layers, giving the painting a sense of depth. Using acrylics and spray paint, you'll see detailed, delicate brushwork and beautiful mists of spray paint. You’ll also see Japanese origami paper pasted onto the painting.
