£1,453.21
Original artwork description
I painted a landscape of the countryside in the summer. I was inspired by the historical landscape of my birthplace, as described in the book ‘Buitenplaatsen in het Westland’ by Martin van den Broeke et al.
‘Estates played an important role in spatial development. From the beginning of the Golden Age until well into the nineteenth century, there were countless of them throughout the region, which left their mark. Of the hundred estates in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, virtually nothing has been preserved in the landscape. The attentive visitor will recognize a fence here and there, a ditch or an allotment pattern that is reminiscent of a former country house. But there is not much left of the vast, open and picturesque agricultural landscape of the Westland, which city dwellers enjoyed so much. It has become a ‘missing landscape’, as it were.”
The painting is ready to hang.
