This expressive painting is inspired by the ancient town of Mesembria (today’s Nessebar), one of the oldest cities on the Black Sea coast, known for its layered history and remarkable architecture. The composition captures the spirit of the old stone churches and arches that rise above the sea, interpreted through a vibrant and dynamic painterly language. Bold, contrasting colours and textured brushwork build an architectural rhythm of arches, walls, and domes. The forms are fragmented and reassembled into a vivid visual structure that evokes both the historical memory of the place and the emotional impression of walking through the narrow streets of the old town. The painting is a poetic reflection on the layered memory of stone, sea, and time. Arches, walls and domes emerge through vibrant colour and expressive brushwork, suggesting the rhythm of old architecture shaped by centuries. This work would bring strong presence and colour to an interior and is part of my ongoing exploration of architecture, memory and landscape.
