This painting was an automatic painting. The theory behind this sounds easy (empty your mind and painting whatever comes to you) but the resulting image is rarely fruitful! This painting strikes me as having either a water or fire symbolism to it; with the movement and style probably coming from my recent love of the Grosvenor period Lino cuts which although the colour is not replicated here some of the line work is reminiscent.
