Inspired by Botany Bay on the Kent coast, Memory of the Bay explores how a place stays with us long after we’ve left. Rather than capturing the landscape exactly as it appears, the painting reflects the colours, textures and atmosphere that remain in memory.

Layers of deep indigo, oxidised teal and warm rust evoke weathered chalk cliffs, changing skies and the marks left by salt, sea and time. Built through repeated layering, scraping back and reworking the surface, the painting reveals traces of what came before, echoing the way the coastline itself is continually shaped by the elements.

Calm yet full of depth, Memory of the Bay invites the viewer to bring their own experiences to the work, whether it recalls a favourite stretch of coastline or simply the feeling of standing by the sea.
