Memories of Japan
Reduction Linocut
Memories of Japan is inspired by my travels and the deep impression this country left on me. The scene captures the iconic red torii gate rising from the waters of Lake Ashi, with the snow-capped peak of Mount Fuji standing peacefully in the distance. A soaring bird drifts across the sky, adding a sense of freedom and stillness to the landscape.
I was particularly moved by the torii gates — symbols of transition and spiritual connection. Their presence against the beauty of Japan’s forests and mountains felt timeless and grounding. Through this piece, I wanted to preserve that moment of wonder and share the calm strength I felt standing before them.
