Mariah –
you were not a statue.
You were an escape.
You were birth in the dirt.
You were fear,
you were strength,
you were hope –
in pain.

And you –
you never possessed,
but you carried.
You held,
you let go.

Today,
when women are supposed to be silent,
because they are too loud,
too wild,
too uncomfortable –

you stand there,
not in blue and gold,
but in dust,
in tears,
in fire.

And whisper to us:

"Stand up.
Speak.
Carry the new.
You are not too much.
You are just right."
