Love Yourself III episode - Black and Red. (2020) Original Acrylic Painting by Maria Seltsova
150 x 150cm (unframed) / 150 x 150cm (actual image size)
£2,161.63
Original artwork description
In this new episode of the Love Yourself series, Seltsova draws inspiration from Taoist philosophy, where sexual energy can be transformed into creative force. Through self-exploration and an experimental painting process involving a self-pleasure device as a mark-making tool, the artist confronts and gradually embraces her shadow self.
Layer by layer, the painting releases tension and channels constructive aggression into acceptance, balance, and personal growth. The powerful dialogue between red and black reflects the dynamic interplay of opposing energies. Echoing the symbolism of Yin and Yang, these contrasting forces are not presented as enemies, but as complementary halves that together create wholeness.
A bold work of abstract expressionism exploring transformation, duality, and the union of sensuality and creativity.
