Love Yourself, Ep. III, Black Red and White (2020) Original Acrylic Painting by Maria Seltsova

150 x 150cm (unframed) / 150 x 150cm (actual image size)

£2,161.63

In this episode of the Love Yourself series, Seltsova explores the transformation of sexual energy into creative force through the philosophy of Tao. Created using a self-pleasure device as a mark-making tool, the painting becomes an act of self-exploration, confronting hidden emotions and releasing inner tension through artistic expression.

Black and red dominate the composition, embodying passion, instinct, anger, and constructive aggression. As the process unfolds, white gradually enters the painting, bringing clarity and the first signs of emotional balance. Softening the intensity of the darker forces, it creates space for reflection, acceptance, and transformation. Together, the three colours reflect a transitional stage in which opposing energies begin to coexist, echoing the Taoist belief that harmony emerges through the integration of all aspects of the self.

A powerful work of abstract expressionism exploring sensuality, emotional healing, and the journey from inner conflict toward wholeness.
