From an edition of 7

Size 60 x 80 cm (unframed)

L’Origine du monde, I (A Nod To Courbet) belongs to the Masters series.

Jonas Peres’ Reinterpretation of “The Origin of the World” by Gustave Courbet: This work takes on new life through a modern 21st-century perspective. With pop expressionism featuring saturated, vibrant colors and an intentionally clean composition, the artist highlights a vivid and fiery tone to exalt the strength, eroticism, and desire to gaze upon it.

Courbet’s work can be considered the most faithful representation of the origin of the world as we know it. It centers on a sensory and intellectual depiction where the woman’s sex is seen as the guardian of the secret of conception and life, and consequently, the origin of the world.

Executed with acrylic and mixed media on fine art paper and protected with museum-grade acrylic glass, the surface reveals depth and refined luminosity. This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, framed in treated natural oak wood and ready to hang. A hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity is included.

This artwork is also available as a limited edition of 7 archival pigment prints on Hahnemühle fine art paper (310 gsm), sold unframed, comprising 5 standard prints and 2 Artist’s Proofs, derived from the original work. Each print is hand-signed and numbered by the artist, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
