Original artwork description
"The grammar of the gaze" is a series that explores the act of looking and being perceived. It is a story punctuated by portraits. And each portrait is a threshold suspended between the present and memory, between what has been and what is revealed. By following the minimal rules of an intimate and personal language, one preserves one's own self, constructed from a layered past and from what we wish to reveal.
In this painting, identity is not announced frontally: it manifests itself through fragments. And the vortices and circular traces act as undertows of memory and small recollections. The locks of hair echo those movements, held back by the austerity of the past, like a tender little suit of armor.
This artwork is made with acrylic colors, charcoal and soft pastels on cradled birch wood panel. The edges are painted and the signature is present on the left one. The artwork is ready to hang and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The surface is finished with a double layer of water-based satin varnish, which makes it resistant to UV rays and the passage of time ...
