LEOPOLD DE MONTBLANC is a round cat sculpture with a surprised (some would say timid) expression, from the Montblanc family. Just look at the tip of his tail!
He is part of the CalbinoOz series, sculptures made from natural calabash wood grown in France.
This calabash has been emptied of its contents, seeds and skin, so that it can be exported worldwide to countries that strictly protect biodiversity and do not accept any seeds, then refilled with clay balls and recycled cardboard shavings to weigh it down and stabilise it.
Like many CalbinoOz sculptures, Leopold wears a small roll-neck jumper, his in a very pale washed-out blue, made from superfine wood cellulose that has been moulded, dried and then painted. His trousers have been painted with a dry brush using three buffered coats to give a fired pottery effect, and the whole piece has then been protected with marine varnish. His luminous eyes are made of blown glass.
Piece signed under the buttocks.
Material: dried hollow calabash wood, superfine wood cellulose, clay beads, blown glass, acrylic paint and water-soluble oil, protective varnish.
Dimensions : H25 x W16 x D25 cm
calabash wood, surfine wood cellulose, blown glass, gourd wood, feather rachis
