Original artwork description

I painted this plein air watercolour painting close to the village of Attiggio in the beautiful, unspoilt region of the Marches in Italy, close to the border with Umbria. I was attracted to the composition of colourful houses perched on the hillside and set up my easel in the shade of a tree to paint them. Later, of course, the sun moved round and pretty hot by the time this work was completed on site. However, as I listened to the distant voices speaking in Italian and the barking of dogs and the church bell ringing, I asked myself why anyone would ever want to paint from a photograph….

This original plein air watercolour painting comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist

Materials used:

600g Hahnemühle, 100% cotton rag, rough, mould-made paper, Windsor and Newton watercolour paints
