The painting celebrates the beauty of the wilted sunflowers, embodying a somber sense of nostalgia and acceptance, but also of hope and renewal. By coincidence the painting was finished around the time when the Russo-Ukrainan War escalated in 2022, lending the painting another layer of interpretation given that sunflower is Ukraine's national flower.
