Original artwork description:

‘LARK OF MITHYMNA. is an acrylic painting 135cmsx75cms on stretched canvas, unframed and stretched over a wooden frame with steel corner braces. Mithymna or Molyvos as it is more commonly known is a township on the Greek island of Lesvos. It is one of my favourite locations. It is also a most popular destination for wild birds. “Lark of Mithymna , I did not hear you say a song as your brothers in distant places , despite it seems you appear to cry the slivers, the naked rocks.” – Argyris Eftaliotis
‘Lark of Mithymna’ is a fleeting memory of a special location, around the olive groves, near to the beach situated beneath the castle at Molyvos. The painting is an abstract interpretation of this location with occasional figurative elements, inspired by the intensity of light, the depth of shadow and the brightness of colour. Hot soft sand , spacious and quiet, almost silent. As to the resemblance of things in nature , it might be observed that resemblance constitutes a relationship between them…all things resemble another. The extending beach bordered by olive trees and on the other , by the sea. In what sense does such resemblance occur? There is enough green in the sea to relate it to the trees . There is enough of the sky reflected in the water to create a resemblance. The sand is yellow between the green and the blue. The light alone creates a unity not only in receding distance but also in the contacts of closest sight.
