“Knocking on Heaven’s Doors” is an early series by GELA MIKAVA that explores the human struggle, collective suffering, and the eternal search for transcendence. The paintings move from figures immersed in shared pain, to darkened silhouettes reaching upward, and finally to ladders standing alone as pure symbols of hope. Through the stark use of red, black, and white, MIKAVA transforms human despair into a universal metaphor: the desire to break through boundaries and touch the infinite. This series invites viewers to reflect on humanity’s resilience, faith, and the unyielding urge to reach beyond.
