This is a set of 8 miniature wooden panels where I explore the Japanese concept of *kintsugi*.

Principles of Kintsugi Philosophy

Embracing Imperfection (Wabi-Sabi): Kintsugi is deeply rooted in the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It teaches that flaws and scars are not shameful, but rather enhance an object’s or a person's beauty.
Resilience and Healing: The philosophy emphasizes that breaking is not the end of a story, but a new chapter. It is a metaphor for human resilience—acknowledging that we can heal from traumas, failures, and hardships, emerging stronger and more beautiful.
The Beauty of History: Rather than discarding broken items, Kintsugi encourages honoring their journey. The repaired piece is considered more valuable and unique than the original, undamaged item.
Mindful Acceptance (Mushin): Kintsugi encourages mushin (no mind), a state of non-attachment and acceptance of change, allowing practitioners to embrace the reality of life without the angst of perfectionism.
Sustainability (Mottainai): The practice aligns with the concept of mottainai, or feeling regret over waste, encouraging repair and appreciation of materials.

Kintsugi transforms the pain of loss or damage into a celebration of survival and transformation.

Each piece is unique and has the feel of a precious object giving a sense of calm, elegance and luxury to any corner of a home.

Materials used:

Wooden panels, paper, inks, water based pigments, Liquid Glass.
