Contrary to appearances, the main character in this painting isn't the kingfisher, but the gently rippling water. Although the kingfisher is stunningly detailed in close-up paintings, I realized that I most often see it in this form, swiftly flying just above the water's surface. Visible for only a second or two, it leaves a moment of delight behind. And we? We can continue to enjoy the peacefully rippling water.
