The Painting takes its inspiration (and name) from a 19th century painting by Arnold Böcklin, a Swiss painter known for his atmospheric and moody works. My own work just wanted a simmilar atmosphere of abandonement (mine also doesn`t have figures, his does). His is probably based on a Greek Island called Pontikonisi. Mine is alsmost solely inspired by drawings i did of a small islet on the Montenegrin coast which once served as a home for the harbourmaster, whose house is on the isle to this day, now in a semi ruinous state with no roof and rotten beams sticking out.
The work has painted edges and can be hung with or without a frame.
