- In deep water
Original artwork description
Working on my 'water people' series, I was struggling with the contradiction between 'happy swimming' and the dangers the water can pose. There was a heat wave going on in the Netherlands and I liked to take a dip in the lake, but I was regularly overtaken by an irrational fear.
You know that feeling? When you look around you over the surface of the water and suddenly realize that you are all alone, and that the depths beneath you suddenly feel threatening. Fortunately, this brave girl can swim very well. She swims from the deep shade to the sunny, warmer shallow water. Let's hope it will be okay metaphorically too...
With a chaotic and wildly colored background I have tried to represent real natural water. Water that is not blue but takes on all the colors of nature in the surroundings…
A thin layer of varnish protects the artwork against UV light and dust. An iron thread will be attached to the back so it's ready to hang.
