I created this portrait of Malala Yousafzai with her place of birth, Mingora Pakistan, in the background while listening to her audio book, "I Am Malala". Infusing her story with my work, I felt absorbed in her history.
I encourage everyone to read her book. There is something for everyone to learn from her experiences & viewpoints, even though she was so young when it was written.
Inspired by the details and colors of my favorite Andrew Wyeth painting, I alternated many layers of graphite and watercolor to achieve my desired effect.
This piece was created with graphite and watercolors on a papered wood panel and is protected with two layers of archival satin varnish. No glass or framing needed.
A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this art piece will be donated to The Malala Fund: www.malala.org
