Faces can become extraordinary patterns. Whenever I walk through the city—especially along its busiest streets—I find myself observing people's faces: their expressions, their emotions. Some are laughing, some are suffering, some are working, some are simply passing the time, and others are lost in thoughts known only to themselves. I wanted to translate all of this into a texture that, from a distance, may not immediately reveal what it is. But as the viewer moves closer, its secrets gradually begin to emerge. The work is composed of 19 inkjet prints glued on canvas previously treated with acrylic paint. The entire surface was then scratched, torn, and sanded, creating a layered, material background.
