Horizon I (2026) Original Mixed-media Painting by Luweji Chipawa

21 x 29.5cm (unframed)

£680

This piece is inspired by the many sunsets I witnessed as a child, watching the African horizon—fleeting moments that left a lasting imprint. It reflects a memory I return to often, one that evokes simpler times and a deeper appreciation for life’s quieter, often overlooked moments. Part of my collection Holding Places, this work explores the merging of parallel lines, abstract forms, and vibrant shapes reminiscent of African visual language. Through these elements, I aim to create a sense of stillness—an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

I’ve worked with a palette of warm and muted tones, layering colour to build depth while maintaining a calm, balanced atmosphere. The focal point draws the eye inward, while the overall composition is intended to hold a gentle sense of peace.
Every artwork is handmade, hand-painted, and hand-cut by me. Because computer screens and photographs can’t always capture the true essence of the piece, trust that the colors are richer and the depth even more striking in person.

Materials used:

Acrylic and and hand cut paper
