The idea behind this series is to move away from the traditional interpretation of landscapes as simple representations of nature. Each piece should be viewed as a combination of three elements: an image, a keyword and a title.
The image/landscape conveys a feeling.
The keyword is a thought.
The title provides context.
When a keyword is added to the 'landscape mood', a shift in perception occurs. The word acts as a key that unlocks a particular train of thought. It sets the tone and emotional emphasis for interpreting the image. The word can be precise and concrete, or enigmatic and open to interpretation as either a question or a statement.
The title of the painting is the third element of this semantic triad. It can provide a historical, philosophical, or personal context for interpretation. When combined with the image and keyword, the title creates a unified construction that begins to take shape in the viewer's mind.
My goal is to create paintings that offer not only a visual experience, but also an intellectual and emotional journey. If viewers take away not only an impression, but also food for thought, it means that the work has really succeeded.
