Artwork description:

‘Homelands’ is an etching inspired by environments significant to me , past and present.

The image shows an imaginative landscape with the sea and a coast line dominating the foreground. A 'South Downs-like' landscape rises above with elements of different landmarks.
One such landmark is a simple drawing of the church in my home town where I grew up. Another is a copy of a petroglyph from a rock drawing meaning "tribe on the move" found in caves in the US I remember from my time living in Las Vegas.
Others are free associations and more abstract, allowing me to capture different aspects of what it is that creates meaning and an individual emotional sense of a place.

With this etching I am looking at the importance of locations and places in our personal life from a wider view point than just the geographical.

The image size is approximately 61cm x 50cm with a paper margin of 8cm all around.
Each print in the edition of 20 is an original, hand printed on acid free fine art printmaking paper by me in my studio in Brighton, UK.

Materials used:

Steel plate, aquatint and line etching, etching tools, etching press, ink, paper
