The man on my painting is enjoying a painting by Josef Albers. Homage to the Square is a disarmingly simple work, composed of four superimposed squares. It is part of a series that Albers began in 1950 and that occupied him for 25 years. Each work in the series is designed to demonstrate the complex perceptual effects produced by the interaction of different colors.
