Just below the spectacular Grawa waterfall, the Ruetz river turns this bend and bubbles over the rocks as it flows, bubbles and splashes its way down through the Stubai valley. The hiking route here is aptly named the “Wilde Wasser Weg” or “Wild water trail” as these mountain rivers really are wild! As I painted this scene on site from a vantage point below the viewing platform for the waterfall, the sound of the falls was deafening as water thundered onto the rocks below and the spray that was in the air “helped” with some of the soft effects in this watercolour. In that sense, some of that wild water is truly eternalized in this watercolour painting.
