Her Own Horizon (2025)Acrylic painting by Emmanuel Akolo

50.8 x 60.96 x 3.81cm (unframed) / 50.8 x 60.96cm (actual image size)

£545.92

In this work, I explore the quiet strength found in self-determination. By turning my subject away from the viewer, I’ve directed her gaze toward a future that exists entirely beyond the frame—a path only she can envision. The star nestled in her hair serves as a subtle emblem of her private aspirations, while the vibrant, textured green backdrop represents the untamed possibilities of growth and renewal. I used a deliberate contrast between the warm, earthy tones of her skin and the cool, kinetic movement of the background to mirror the tension between internal calm and an ever-changing world. This painting is my celebration of the power of self-direction. It is a visual testament to the beauty of forging one’s own path, capturing that sacred moment where we stop looking back and begin to stretch toward our own personal horizon.
