Held in Tension (2025) Original Acrylic Painting by Yuliia Levytska

85 x 130 x 5cm

£1,727.5

This painting explores the emotional intensity that exists between two bodies in close interaction. I am interested in how feelings can be expressed through gesture, touch and the physical presence of the human form.

The figures are intertwined in a moment that balances tenderness and tension. Their bodies lean into each other, creating a dynamic composition where closeness becomes both emotional and physical. The dominant red tones are used deliberately to emphasize the emotional charge of the scene — a colour that speaks of passion, vulnerability and the powerful energy that flows between people.

Although the work contains a certain openness and boldness in its depiction of the body, it is not about eroticism itself. Instead, it focuses on the energetic exchange between two individuals — a moment where intimacy transforms into something more universal.

For me, this painting is about life energy: the desire to feel, to connect and ultimately the desire to live.
