Artwork description
Inspired by walks along the south Devon coast, ’Waterways’ 1 and 2 (this is Waterways 1) shows a shoreline that curves it’s way around small flood basins, harbours, fields and settlements. The image reads like a map, but it is also quite sculptures because of the clearly defined shapes and lines. The prints are not a geographical representation of the landmarks that inspired it, but an abstract playful imaginative expression of my experience walking along the shoreline.
With my prints, I aim to to create images that communicate a narrative in a subtle way, to ‘show’ rather than ‘tell’ a story.
I hope the viewer can find their own personal imaginative story in my etchings.
‘Waterways’ 1 is hand printed from 3 steel plates in small edition of 8 on acid free printmaking paper. The image size is 30x30cm with a paper margin of 6cm all around.
